toysRus Hide & Seek TVC
It's been a while since i last shared some moving image work on the blog. Most of the stuff i've done in Jeddah have been quite boring but this TV commercial has been a lot of fun. I worked on the concept development as well given that there were no agencies involved. After my revised storyboard was approved i wasted no time to prepare the assets for animation. The tricky but effective technique of "animated masks" in After Effects for most of the running cycles helped me crack this animation in 5 days. On a more complex project with elaborate narrative, i would have used Anime Studio Pro. You can find the TVC here

Another Eyeka entry

This 30 sec animation tries to express and illustrate the 3 essences - "Energizing Refreshment, Forward Momentum, Positive" - of Coca Cola. The approach is simplistic and minimalist as is the concept. The latter came to me only 2 days before the deadline and i was not able to spend too long on execution...
A more complex paper plane folding would have been more effective but that would have taken extra couple of days just to do animated tests. Instead of the bottles "fading in" on the wings a more procedural approach - shape being drawn, liquid filling up bottle - was what i had in mind but the clock was ticking...
Bottles created in Illustrator. Use of blend shapes in Maya for the paper plane. Trapcode Particular for the exhaust particles. 3D camera data exported to After Effects for final compositing. Depth of field done in After Effects using z-depth data from the Maya renders. Public domain "free" music from musopen.org edited to fit the timeline.

Open interpretation on the work of art - the abstract structure - that spawns to life from animated stripes... Ending with textual elements... Colour scheme used to appeal to target group... Animation done in After Effects using various techniques... Rights to image bought on pixmac, soundtrack by Basel Issa. “All elements used in part or in whole have rights cleared for usage in the Piaget Call for Entries”.
PS: Camera move has to be fine-tuned; colour correction and depth of field has to be adjusted.

Promotional Animation
I was invited for this Chanel contest on "Eyeka" and after mulling over it for couple of days, i thought that it would be cool trying something quite abstract. So to illustrate the "unlimited options" theme i created a sequence of strange-looking 3D shapes morphing to the beat of the track. After creating and animating the two 3D shapes, the top view was rendered, then imported in After Effects for compositing and colour correction.

Slide Show Opening Sequence
Here's what the client said after the project was completed:
"It was a pleasure working with Reetesh. His work exceeded my expectations. I had an idea and he built on that idea to make a project that will work perfectly for my needs. I will definitely be using him again to do some more work!" Jim
The buildings were done in Adobe Illustrator as vector shapes then imported in Maya to create the cityscape at night. I used Maya's dynamics for the water spray, fire and smoke effects. All the elements were done on separate layers to be later composited using After Effects.

Animated Music Video
This entry for the Nation Beat music video competition was done quite hastily and completed within a 5 day period. You'll notice that the 3D models are highly simplified, some of the lip movements are out of "sync" and the animation is unrefined. However in its integrity, this piece works quite well. 3D character animation, when handled by one person is tedious and at times one has to compromise on some aspects of modeling, rigging and texture mapping to meet tight deadlines and budgets.

Infomercial
After working on the logo design and branding for Bikemac, the motorcycle seat cover, i was commissioned to do an animated infomercial for the UK launch. As the budget was half of what i was expecting, i advised the client to go for an oversimplified style, inspired from information graphics. This initial drawback turned out to be an added element to the straightforward concept.
